Scientists and specialists from the Siboney-Juticí Ecological Station in Santiago de Cuba put into practice inventive techniques to provide water in times of drought, mainly to the reptiles that live in the area.

According to a publication by the Eastern Center for Ecosystems and Biodiversity Bioeco on the social network Facebook, water can become extremely scarce.

“Although the reptiles that live there have adapted to these arid environments and can survive for long periods without drinking directly, relying only on the humidity of their environment, obtaining it only occasionally from dew or puddles that form during scarce rains” .

They also point out that “in the dry months, this situation worsens and sometimes the vital liquid disappears into the ground as quickly as it falls, giving these animals little opportunity to replenish themselves. That is why many reptiles take advantage of artificial sources because it provides them with fresh water. relatively easy way.”

Thus, in areas of the Reserve, these drinking troughs and attractive images can be seen, which can be accessed on their official Facebook profile, of the precise moment when the animals come to quench their thirst.

The Siboney Juticí Ecological Reserve is one of those owned by the province of Santiago and where the Juan Cristóbal Gundlach Permanent Bird Banding Station is also located.
