Gendarmerie reported that 99% of the prison population of the Alto Hospicio Penitentiary Complex (CP) and the Iquique Penitentiary Compliance Center (CCP) were vaccinated against influenza and covid-19 as a way to prevent these types of diseases, a product of the approach of winter.

This was confirmed by the Seremi of Justice, Pablo Valenzuela, together with the regional director of the Gendarmerie, Colonel Juan Carlos Zamora, who attended the Alto Hospicio CP and verified the development of that activity, which was carried out in the gymnasium of the prison facility.

At the site, there was the collaboration of Cesfam “Héctor Reino”, dependent on the Municipality of Iquique, which had its personnel, being advised by paramedics from the Gendarmerie and the concessionaire itself.

From the institution they indicated that “said work was carried out smoothly, where the prison population actively participated, understanding that the process benefits them directly and had the objective of avoiding future illnesses, due to the proximity of winter.”

With the last day of immunization, over 2,300 inmates were completed, since those days were completed gradually during previous weeks, with an average of 250 beneficiaries per day.

In the CCP of Iquique, vaccination against influenza was also carried out and 430 inmates of that prison were vaccinated, who received the corresponding dose to avoid influenza disease.

“It does not mean that perhaps some inmates cannot contract the disease, but rather that its effects will not be as severe if they had not been vaccinated,” they indicated in a statement.

The paramedic at Daniel Clavel Morales said that the entire population of that unit received the inoculation. To carry out this procedure, the statistical section offices were used and it was carried out by personnel from the Cesfan “Pedro Pulgar” in Iquique.

“Everything went smoothly and there was good collaboration from the inmates themselves. That’s why everything was fluid and very fast,” he added.

Finally, the officials dependent on the regional Gendarmerie directorate were also vaccinated, thereby completing this procedure, which was carried out in the premises of the institutional polyclinic run by the Cesfam “Videla” personnel, corresponding to the municipal health of Iquique. .
