Bernardo Montenegro, spokesperson for the Legal Affairs Directorate of the Mayor’s Office of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, reported that The dialogue in which they were involved as mediators between the Piraí garbage collection company and their own former workers was broken. He assured that if this situation implies a direct effect on the service they provide to citizens in the capital of Santa Cruz, they will be sued.

One of 30 points blocked the dialogue

We must regret and communicate that regarding the conflict that has been generated between the Piraí company and some of its former employees, great efforts were made to hold a dialogue table, considering the demands one by one. However, due to only one of the points, of the 30 that were analyzed, the dialogue has been broken, and the workers of the institution were harmed.“Montenegro noted.

Likewise, he clarified that, pthat the Mayor’s Office has no direct responsibility, as it is a problem between two parties, ““intransigence prevailed more than the well-being of the citizens.”

The Mayor’s Office issued a warning

He warned that “if this intransigence leads to garbage collection being interrupted again, you can be assured that legal action will be taken against both sides, both the company and the former workers.”

According to the official: “We are not going to tolerate the fact that we have a greater risk due to the accumulation of garbage in hospitals, schools and others. The municipality together, with other institutions, has mediated to try to reach an agreement; but only one point blocked everything.”

They have already blocked the entrance to the landfill

Precisely, on Thursday, the streets of Santa Cruz de la Sierra were affected again by the accumulation of garbage, since urban cleaning workers radicalized their pressure measures in demand of better working conditions and the payment of salaries owed.

After the police intervention on Wednesday, May 1, at the doors of the Piraí company, where workers were protesting after a 48-hour strike, this Thursday they announced a new p72-hour ring and blocking entry to the landfill.

We are entering a 72-hour strike, which includes mobilizations and even blockades. And gentlemen of this Piraí company, Do not harm the entire Bolivia, because this is going to lead to a national strike,” said one of the representatives of the mobilized sector.
