With the commissioning of 32.4 kilometers of second carriagewaycorresponding to functional units 3 and 4, the National Government through the Ministry of Transportation, headed by the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), delivered in its entirety the fourth generation Pamplona – Cúcuta project, a 62-mile road corridor .6 kilometers, which allows the region to be better connected to the interior of the country and the border area.

In Functional Unit 3 there are 14.5 km that go from the municipality of Pamplonita to the El Diamante Population Center, highlighting the construction of the Pamplonita tunnel, 6 viaducts, weighing area, service area and a pedestrian bridge. For its part, in Functional Unit 4, there are 17.9 km of second carriageway that go from the El Diamante Population Center to the La Donjuana Population Center, with 11 vehicular bridges along its route.

“This 4G project constitutes one of the most representative road axes for northeastern Colombia, given the economic and tourism potential of Norte de Santander. “They are fundamental works to generate development and well-being for the department and the country,” indicated William Fernando Camargo Triana, Minister of Transportation.

And the official added at the inauguration: “The delivery of these works brings great benefits to the region, by improving traffic conditions, boosting economic development and boosting employment and the local supply chain.”

The project highlights large-scale works such as the bypass and the 1,400-meter Pamplona tunnel, the latter of great significance, since it was the first for Norte de Santander. Likewise, the Pamplonita tunnels, with a length of 1,071 meters, and La Honda, 392 meters.

Additionally, the completion of 23 vehicular bridges.

It should be noted that on March 23, 5.9 kilometers of second carriageway were put into operation, from La Donjuana to Los Acacios, in Functional Unit 5.

The La Honda viaduct stands out there, 386 meters long and with a maximum height of 83.3 meters.
With this project, more than 943,400 inhabitants of Cúcuta, Pamplona, ​​Pamplonita, Bochalema, Chinácota and Los Patios, in Norte de Santander. Additionally, more than 3,300 jobs were created during construction. Likewise, with a Capex investment of $2.45 billion (December 2023 figure), the works included the construction of 49.97 km of new road (between second carriageway and single carriageway), the rehabilitation of 51 kilometers of single carriageway and 11 kilometers of dual carriageway between Pamplona and the Betania sector, in Los Patios (Norte de Santander).

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) were also installed along the road corridor: 45 SOS posts, height detector gauges (12 electronic and 12 mechanical), 27 variable messaging panels, fiber optics, lighting on the new pedestrian bridges, 15 cameras that make up a closed circuit television, 6 weather stations, 2 data collection stations and 4 speed control totems.

Similarly, The project has an Operations Control Center – CCObuilt in the Los Acacios sector, from where the monitoring of the road corridor is coordinated.

It is worth remembering that since President Gustavo Petro took office, This is the first 4G work that it delivers.

This project, according to Aniscopio, had to be 100% ready by November 7, 2023, that is, the concessionaire delivered six months later than projected in the schedule.
