The Cuban ruler Miguel Diaz-Canel and his wife Lisa Cuesta They toured the facilities of the FITCUBA 2024 Tourism Fair, which is being held until this Sunday in Cayo Coco, north of Ciego de Ávila.
During their visit to the stand in the province of Sancti Spíritus, an artisan known as Chichi gave the couple a jug that has been the subject of ridicule on social networks.
The Facebook profile of user Edmundo Dantés Junior shared a photo with a false “lemon oil” label.
This is an allusion to the remembered Díaz-Canel’s phrase that “lemonade is the basis of everything”which generated a wave of memes and which for journalist Boris Fuentes, who spread the report, meant the end of his work on television.
Another photo shows the old man and the ruler grabbing the jug by the “horns” of former spy Gerardo Hernández Nordelo.
The Facebook user “Trinidad Travel” shared more photos of Díaz-Canel and Lis Cuesta posing happily with Chichi and other artisans who created rugs and sets of earrings and scarves that they gave to the couple.
Last Friday the ruler went to the tourist center Jardines del Rey, headquarters of FITCUBAwhere “he toured the tourist and non-hotel facilities of that important tourist center,” reported the Presidencia Cuba Twitter profile.
The Fair is the most important event of the sector in Cuba, despite the fact that the country fails to meet its objectives for arrivals of international visitors.
The regime claims that the event is a “propitious opportunity to outline new strategies, joint businesses and learn about Cuban history, culture and traditions,” when trying to attract more than three million tourists this year.
