The general director of Employment, Cristina Salinas, has highlighted that the unemployment data for the month of April 2024 are “positive” because “the decrease has been homogeneous, in all sectors, in men and women, in all sections of age and in all areas of La Rioja”.

For the general director, the data in industry also stands out “which have had a very favorable behavior” last April in our autonomous community.

Specifically, the number of unemployed people registered in La Rioja last April stands at 13,354, which represents a decrease of 354 people (-2.58 percent) compared to March and places the unemployment rate at 8 .30 percent, the fifth lowest in the country and 2.71 points from the national average (11.01 percent).

In addition, the autonomous community continues its trend of reducing unemployment compared to the previous year, with 792 fewer unemployed than in April 2023 (-5.60 percent).

The data, published this Monday by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, places La Rioja as the fifth autonomous community with the lowest unemployment rate, below the Balearic Islands (4.41 percent), Aragón (7.86 percent ), Madrid (7.96 percent) and Catalonia (8.06 percent).

“THE BEST DATA FOR A MONTH OF APRIL SINCE 2008”

Furthermore, Salinas stated that “we have the best data for the month of April since 2008” and highlighted that during the last month unemployment has decreased in all sectors.

Specifically, 132 less unemployed in Services, 123 less in Industry, 86 less in Agriculture, 12 less people within the group Without Previous Employment and 1 less unemployed in Construction.

By sex, the Director General of Employment has recognized that “the trend of annual decline in registered unemployment among women continues at a greater rate than that of men,” with 538 fewer women unemployed in the last year, compared to the 245 men who have found employment since April 2023.

Furthermore, in the last month, female unemployment stood at 8,108 people, decreasing by 145 women in all sectors. On the other hand, male unemployment reaches 5,246 people, which represents a decrease of 209 men in all sectors except Construction, where it increased by one person.

Regarding the unemployment rate, the male unemployment rate in La Rioja stands at 6.03 percent, the third lowest in the country, only below the Balearic Islands (3.48 percent) and Aragon (5.59 percent). and 2.28 points below the national average (8.31 percent). For its part, the female unemployment rate in La Rioja is 10.97 percent, the fifth lowest in the country and more than three points below the national average (14.03 percent).

During the month of April, unemployment has also decreased in all age groups, with 172 fewer unemployed under 30 years of age, 114 fewer between 30 and 44 years of age and 68 fewer among those over 44 years of age.

Interannual, the number of unemployed people registered in La Rioja has decreased by 5.60 percent, with a decrease in all age ranges; 427 fewer unemployed among those over 45 years of age, 354 fewer between 30 and 44 years of age and 11 fewer unemployed among those under 30 years of age. This reduction also occurs in all sectors of activity, except in Construction, which is the only one that registers a “slight increase” of 36 people, according to Salinas.

RECORD OF AFFILIATES

The General Director of Employment has also reported the number of contracts registered in La Rioja during the month of April, which was 7,762, which represents an increase of 11.98 percent, with 821 more contracts than in March. Compared to last year, there has been an increase of 6.41 percent, with 462 more contracts than in April 2023.

Of the total contracts signed in April in La Rioja, 2,882 are indefinite, representing 37.57 percent of the total. Compared to last March, there has been an increase of 298 permanent contracts (11.53 percent), while in the last year there have been 16 fewer (-0.55 percent). On the other hand, temporary contracts registered in April amount to 4,790, 62.43 percent of the total. In the last month, this type of contracts has increased by 523 (12.26 percent) and in the last year 478 more have been signed (11.09 percent).

By sectors, the highest number of contracts formalized last April occurred in the Services sector (4,833), followed by Industry (1,343), Agriculture (1,165) and Construction (331).

In relation to Social Security, during April an average of 137,344 affiliates were counted in La Rioja, of which 112,843 correspond to the general regime and 24,501 to the special self-employed regime. Salinas highlighted that “this is the highest number of affiliates for the month of April since 2004.” Compared to the previous year, La Rioja has increased the number of people affiliated with Social Security by 2,690 and compared to the previous month, there are 738 more.
