Among the different commitments acquired by the National Government with the department, is the construction of a fertilizer plant. President Gustavo Petro Urrego made it clear that it will happen before he ends his term as national leader. The above, after the request made by the governor of Huila Rodrigo Villalba Mosquera during his intervention.

Huila is the first producer of phosphorites with 20,000 tons per year and the second producer of dolomites with 30,000 tons per year, priority raw materials for the manufacture of fertilizers, hence the need to consolidate the industrial mining transformation processes developed within the framework of a cluster whose final stage is the fertilizer plant to be built.

A fertilizer plant here cries out, and the main cluster is in this same area, it would help us a lot, a lot, for agroindustrialization in the policy of the National Government,” said the governor of Huila.Rodrigo Villalba Mosquera.

For his part, President Petro accepted the request and stated that he was on the side of the president of Huila and emphasized that work must also be done on decarbonization.

The climate crisis forces us and this is a research to do, that we use fertilizers and instruments, agricultural inputs that do not have oil. Be careful with that, it is even the cheapest, but it is not going to be sold in the world. And this is an exploration that we have to start more now, how can we make biofertilizers that are as or cost as much as oil?, in such a way that the rice that Huila and hopefully Colombia sells is rice, look at the word that I’m going to invent: be a decarbonized rice”, assured Petro Urrego.

Likewise, credits with soft lines will be promoted for working capital to rice producers, regarding the new mill. “Here I have been seeing the concrete experience of industrialization that begins now, that the State provides, then it is a member, but it has to be a minority member, what if the cooperative has funds? Well, of course, its activity would be developed”.

But in Colombia we don’t find many cooperatives with funds and then we would have a difficulty there. What can the Agrarian Bank finance with a zero percent interest rate? I think we could extend the industrialization of the countryside. The Agrarian Bank has to be linked to industrialization. What’s more, the Agrarian Bank has to be owned by the peasantry“added Petro Urrego.
