As a member of FOPEA, Campana Noticias participated in the event led by the head of the organization, Paula Moreno Román, who highlighted the work of the team of monitors to prepare basic data for this report, describing the current situation of Argentine journalism as “delicate.”
Partners, journalists, teachers, media managers, representatives of organizations and Embassies, among other guests, also participated in the presentation.
According to the report, in 2023 there were 117 attacks on the press, 32.95% more cases in 2022. “The data is worrying, especially given the current scenario of stigmatization and digital violence to which the profession is subjected,” they expressed. from FOPEA, while announcing the launch of an investigation into digital violence against journalists in Argentina.
Leonardo Fay, Director of Campana Noticias, assured that “limiting journalistic freedom is extending a blanket of darkness over people. But it is not an exclusive role of journalists to defend them. It must be the organizations, the community, and the Justice system who must protect this valuable tool. Even more so when every three days, on average, there is an attack against journalists or some obstruction to the work of the press occurs.”
In this regard, Fay analyzed the numbers from the latest FOPEA report, and considered: “It is truly worrying that of the total number of attacks recorded, more than half were originated by political and/or leadership power. And so far in 2024 the trend continues, with about 50 cases in 123 days,” he concluded.
