With the commitment to promote the comprehensive well-being of the elderly in Santa Marta, Mayor Carlos Pinedo gave precise instructions to advance the materialization of the Wellness Center project in Santa Marta. This important work, led by the Secretariat of Social Promotion, Inclusion and Equity under the direction of Secretary David Farelo, is now in a crucial phase of development.

Secretary David Farelo reported the beginning of the Support process for the Comprehensive Care and Protection of the Elderly in the Elderly Welfare Center. This request is already filed in the project bank of the Planning Secretariat for its viability, with the main objective of providing comprehensive care to the city’s older population, identified as living in extreme poverty or with some degree of disability. The project also seeks to evaluate and diagnose these people so that they can adapt to psychological, physiological and sociocultural changes, and thus feel valued in society.

This initiative will be carried out at the headquarters of the Wellness Centers that meet the requirements, specifications and contractual conditions, and that also apply in the bidding process opened by the District Contracting Office. Once the administrative processes have been overcome, it is expected to slow down and mitigate the consequences of the vulnerability in which older adults find themselves, thus improving their quality of life.

It is important to mention that, to achieve dignified care, the necessary materials and supplies will be provided in areas such as administration, kitchen, bedrooms, infirmary, living room, dining room and other needs of daily life, in accordance with the maximum care capacity of the facility. campus.

Comprehensive care for older adults in Santa Marta is justified by the need to guarantee their well-being, health and quality of life. This includes understanding life cycles, improving quality of life, specialized care, consideration of changing needs, and personalized, comprehensive care.

The population of older adults in Santa Marta, according to the DANE census and the projection for 2024, is 67,981. However, this project seeks to benefit grandparents in extreme poverty who are homeless or who, due to lack of resources, see their fundamental rights violated. These people will be able to access the services of the Life Centers, including adequate nutrition, psychosocial guidance, primary health care, health insurance, training in productive activities, sports, culture, recreation, intergenerational meetings, promotion of associative work and use of new technologies.

This effort represents a significant step towards reducing the vulnerability of older adults in Santa Marta.
