Given the complaint that was known this weekend, about the death of a puma in the town of Buenavista, jurisdiction of Plato, in Magdalena, the Autonomous Corporation of Magdalena spoke out by carrying out investigations to clarify the facts.
Thus, officials from this entity went to the place and identified the alleged perpetrators of this atrocious animal crime. The two people who attacked the puma justified themselves by stating that it was roaming around the farm and was very close to domestic animals.

The worst thing was that, after hunting it, they proceeded to remove its skin in the presence of some people from the community.
For this crime against the special protection animal, Corpamag opened a sanctioning process and filed the respective complaint with the Attorney General’s Office and the Police. The death of the puma is classified as animal abuse.
“We have proceeded to inform the Police and the Attorney General’s Office of the situation so that they can begin investigations and impose any criminal sanctions that may be applicable,” said Paul Laguna Panetta, Deputy Director of Environmental Management at Corpamag.
The Puma is the second largest cat in America. The loss of these species brings about an imbalance in the conditions for seed dispersal and predation, pollination and modification in the population control of herbivores, thereby altering the capacity to reestablish plant covers, microclimatic stability and therefore the water supply.
In addition, they demographically control their prey species, preventing their overpopulation, eliminating old and sick specimens, thereby contributing to reducing the spread of diseases. Without the presence of felines in our territory, other species of herbivores, omnivores and birds could increase, as could the consumption of plants, seedlings and seeds, which would alter the growth and regeneration dynamics of the forests.
The entity rejected this act of violence and thanked the community for actively reporting this fact.
