Antanas Mockus resigns from the Green Alliance Party due to corruption scandal in the Ungrd

Through a letter published on May 6, the former mayor of Bogotá and former senator Antanas Mockus resigned from the Green Party.

Precisely, This decision comes after two of its members, such as Iván Name, president of Congress, and Sandra Ortiz, outgoing advisor for the Regions, were implicated in the corruption scandal in the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD). .

Sneyder Pinilla, former deputy director of the entity, assured that he gave money in cash to Ortiz, who sent it to Name to facilitate the approval of the social reforms of the government of President Gustavo Petro.

According to Mockus in the document sent to the community’s directives, “after analyzing the recent and scandalous national events and analyzing the complaints of corruption that the media have recorded in recent days.”

Likewise, he adds that he is leaving the party “following the ethical precepts that have been the foundation and flag of my life.”

Finally, he points out that, although he hopes that the accused will be able to defend themselves, he does consider what happened serious and even describes their participation in the community as “unsustainable.”

At the moment, the Green Party has not commented on the matter after the resignation, although they had already requested that knowledge of the scandal be opened through a formal investigation to the Ethics Council for the accusations of Name and Ortiz.

This Monday the document was released with which Olmedo López, former director of the Disaster Risk Management Unit, requested the principle of opportunity to reveal the alleged acts of corruption within this entity.

“Olmedo de Jesús López Martínez, identified as it appears at the bottom of my signature, I come before you with the objective of requesting the application of the principle of opportunity in accordance with the provisions of article 324 of Law 906 of 2004,” says the document that López sent to the Attorney General’s Office.

The money to pay the bribes to the congressmen apparently came from the controversial tank truck contract, which sought to bring water to the poorest communities of La Guajira and cost 46,000 million pesos. | Photo: National Unit for Disaster Risk Management
