This May 5, Cuba broke the world and national record for Cuban popular and sports dances, a worthy tribute to celebrate National Son Day, on May 8.

The feats of having the largest number of people dancing simultaneously on casino wheels, as well as the largest number of wheels at the same time, were achieved by the Retomando el Son Bailando Casino project, led by its founder, Luis Llamo Castillo, whom He is considered the Ambassador of Son in Cuba.

For nine minutes, 142 casino rounds were held simultaneously throughout the island, with more than 2,900 dancers throughout the country, the National Council of Houses of Culture (CNCC) reported on its Facebook page. The central event took place in La Piragua plaza, in front of El Malecón in Havana.

Children, young people, adults, amateur artists, art instructors, cultural promoters and other dancers at heart participated in this great party, which set out to retake and rescue the casino, one of the most popular dances, rooted in Cuban musical-dance history. , in order, in this way, to continue defending the most authentic values ​​of the national culture.

The event had the support of the Ministry of Culture and, in addition, with the accompaniment of the CNCC, the Plaza Cultural District, Inder, Artex, among other institutions.

One of the dreams of Harold Vergara, director of Plaza Distrito Cultural, came true, who, until the last moments of his life in the early hours of Sunday morning, worked tirelessly in the organization of this initiative, to reach the greatest number of people and set a new world and national record.
