Colombia is globally recognized as a coffee powerhouse; However, despite this fame, many of us know little about the rich culture that surrounds coffee.

The majority lack knowledge about sowing and harvesting, much less about the multiple types and varieties, their bodies and flavors, or the filtering techniques that exalt their essence.

The Cauca Valley, blessed with a diversity of lands suitable for growing exotic coffee varieties, is in a unique position to lead not only in the production of these varieties, but also in coffee education and experience.

With 39 of its 42 municipalities dedicated to coffee cultivation, and being home to the best barista in the world, our region has the potential to become a true coffee hub.

However, to achieve this, a deeper commitment to coffee culture is required. We must aspire to more than simply farming and exporting.

We need to create an ecosystem that fosters deep knowledge and appreciation for every step of the coffee process. From seed to cup, each stage offers an opportunity to innovate and educate.

Let’s imagine a Valle del Cauca where visitors, both national and international, can participate in interactive workshops on farms, learning about sustainable agricultural techniques and harvesting methods.

Where they can experience first-hand the science and art behind different filtering methods in specialized training centers, supported by the state with seed and productive capital that encourage the exploration of new varieties and techniques.

We already have inspiring examples such as the Cali Café Festival, which demonstrate the interest and viability of these meetings. But we can do more.

With more than 140,000 families in the region depending on coffee for their livelihood, it is our responsibility and opportunity to expand these events and programs.

This would not only help solidify Valle del Cauca’s position as a global leader in the coffee industry, but would also strengthen the local economy significantly.

Creating a coffee hub is not just a business opportunity; It is an invitation to be part of a global community that values quality, sustainability and innovation.

It is up to us, in Valle del Cauca, to take the initiative and turn our coffee heritage into a shared experience that resonates around the world.

Let’s make coffee not only an export product, but a cultural bridge that invites the world to discover the richness of Colombia, one cup at a time.
