Former Argentine midfielder Osvaldo Ardiles, world champion with the Albiceleste in 1978, said that his then coach, César Luis Menotti, who died at the age of 85, was a “ahead of his time.”
The former Argentine international in the 1978 Argentina and 1982 World Cups in Spain said goodbye to whom he considered his “football father” with a message on his social network account X.

“With deep pain… Goodbye Master. Master of masters. I have no words to reflect who Cesar was. A man ahead of his time. Much more… much more than a Coach. My football father. A lot of me is gone today with him. Rest in peace Caesar.”
The former midfielder of the Argentine Huracán, the French Paris Saint-Germain and the English Tottenham Hotspur posted, among others.
Ardiles, who won the UEFA Cup and two FA Cup titles with the ‘Spurs’, added another publication in which he spoke of the “extraordinary revolution” that ‘Flaco’ advanced with his sayings.

When the host team and the Netherlands competed for the title in the 1974 World Cup in Germany, there was talk of “football of the future”, which Menotti then denied, arguing that “football is in South America” and added: “In Argentina. César Luis Menotti, the first world champion coach with Argentina in 1978 and current director of the National Teams, died this Sunday at the age of 85, according to the Argentine Football Association (AFA).
“With deep pain, the Argentine Football Association regrets to report with great sadness the death of César Luis Menotti, current Director of National Teams and former World Champion coach of Argentina. Goodbye, dear Flaco!”
He confirmed the AFA on his X account.
