The musical project emerged in the summer of 2020, as an original proposal: Drummer Agustín Barda, bassist Santiago Medina Hascher on bass and Nacho Aubone, formed a power trio to make what they call ‘rock fusion’. Years passed, the COVID 19 pandemic and a long production process passed until their first album finally came to light. Nacho & Los Cheddar is an emerging band from San Juan that takes its first steps in the rock scene. This weekend he will have the valuable opportunity to go up for the first time to the Sala Auditorium of the Teatro del Bicentenario to launch his album, with a homonymous title, which will be available starting this month on digital platforms. As a foundation, this show will have a tour of the songs that characterize the group, the songs from the album and some other covers as a tribute to their sound influences, plus some surprises with special guests. In addition, the scheme was recently renewed with the departure of the original drummer (who proposed the group’s founding name), in whose place will be Agustín Gómez.

Vocalist Nacho Aubone explained to DIARIO DE CUYO what the path was like to get to this point: ‘We managed to win a scholarship from INAMU last year to be able to record our first album and we are happy with this presentation. From the call of the Bicentennial Theater in February, we achieved this date and it will be our first experience in this space, that is why we want to generate the positive spark for the public to attend and have fun with us.’

The guitarist and singer also detailed the essence that sustains this band: ‘We talked a lot among ourselves about what to say about our proposal. When it comes to having a name and making songs, what message to convey. In reality we realized that we never cared much about all that, we don’t want to have a particular message, we just get together to play the music we like. The truth is that everything happened because I invited the other musicians to play. Since the songs are composed by me and I had collaborations with them, then we began a common factor that unites us, which is to look beyond what is currently heard. “We decided to play something more risky for us, to make strange and very fast songs, to surpass ourselves,” said the group’s leader.

In these terms, they understand ‘rock fusion’ as a test of different styles: ‘We have blues, rock, jazz, funk, we do a little of everything, we do not have a title marked on a single rhythm and we do not want to lock ourselves into anything. ‘, said with conviction, who, with sung songs and other instrumental songs, seeks a musical narrative that comes from the lived experiences of everyday life. The band’s purpose for this album is for it to be a cover letter for upcoming recitals in the province, festivals and regional and national tours.

‘We play more complex melodies, that are difficult for us, that allow us to go beyond what is safe and comfortable, we bet on crazier things and that is what will be shown on the live stage. More than self-management, we seek to promote self-improvement,’ Nacho concluded.

The appointment will be next Friday, May 10 at 9 p.m. The guest musicians are Agustina Aubone, Luisa Bartolomé and Andrés Rímolo on choirs, Agustín Hierrezuelo on sax, Jonatan Ríos and Orlando Tejada on keyboards, Agustín Barda on drums, Alejandro Cáceres on vocals and Willy Herrera on guitar.
