Teaching poster: Education will continue to violate the joint act that harms teachers – Jujuy

05/07/2024. The Secretary of Educational Management argued that the decision responds to the “inequality and disparity between preceptors, with different workloads, but similar remunerations.” In June, payment for 18 hours of teaching had been achieved

Before the general strike called by the CGT takes place this Thursday, in Jujuy CEDEMS teachers will hold a demonstration to demand salary improvements and, in the case of preceptors, to pay the 18 hours of teaching again, an agreement that had been reached in June last year, but the Ministry of Education indicated that it will continue to violate said agreement.

The novelty was announced by the Secretary of Educational Management, Federico Medrano, who argued that the changes made respond to the “inequality and disparity between preceptors, with different workloads, but similar remunerations”, in dialogue with Channel 4.

In that sense, the official explained “there are preceptors with 4.20 hours a day, others with 5.40 and others with more. We talked about it with CEDEMS and we moved forward. A decision was made by the Ministry of Education. The union rejected this proposal, but we understand that it was necessary to make this decision.”

With this modality, the group of 193 preceptors with a workload that does not exceed 4 hours and 20 minutes will continue to receive salaries corresponding to 15 teaching hours; Another group of preceptors – about 750 – who previously earned 15 hours of teaching time will be recognized as 16 and, finally, those who work around six clock hours will be recognized as 18 hours of teaching time, a sector that amounts to about 216 preceptors.

In this way, the educational portfolio reversed the provisions in June 2023, when the government with the CEDEMS agreed that payment for the seventh and eighth hours would be recognized. “Those who earned less than 5 hours (clock) were going to be paid with 15 hours of teaching and those who worked more than 5 hours (clock) were going to be paid 18 (hours of teaching) and if an incompatibility were to occur, the preceptor was going to having to choose, but it did not mean that I was going to lose both positions,” Mercedes Sosa, general secretary of CEDEMS, explained last week, pointing to the violation of the joint act that was applied for five months and that since January was detrimental with the decrease in the salaries of preceptors, who were once again paid for completing 15 hours of teaching, even when the workload was greater.

Thus, tomorrow the union will stage a demonstration in all educational institutions to demand salaries in line with the cost of the basic family basket and, in the case of preceptors, that the joint agreement from June of last year be reapplied and the 6:00 p.m. chair.
