The Family Race will return to the streets of Logroño on May 19

A family event, for all audiences, as well as solidarity. The streets of the capital of Rioja will host next Sunday, May 19, the seventh edition of the Family Race, which returns after the break that took place last year – due to the death of Toño Torrealba – to support the work carried out by the Association of the pathogenic mutation in the GNAO-1 gene and Fast Spain Angelman Syndrome, of which the Rioja children Manuel and Sara are part.

They will be the true protagonists of this event in which, as the councilor of Logroño Deporte, Miguel Sainz, detailed this Tuesday in the presentation of this seventh edition, “we are all going to run as a family not only for Manuel and Sara, but for what these different, rare, atypical, very specific and capricious diseases mean, and what it means to keep their flame alive. In this sense, Eduardo, the father of the little girl, who is the only Riojan diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome in the community – which causes absence of speech, ataxia and sleeping difficulties, among other difficulties – has appealed for participation in this race because “the funds are destined for a good cause: research into Angelman Syndrome, which is the most necessary for this type of disease.” “Research is key so that they can have a better life in the future,” he noted.

In turn, Mila, Manuel’s mother, who is affected by a genetic mutation in GNAO1 – which causes involuntary movements, motor delay or hypotonia, among other conditions – has thanked the “great speaker” that this solidarity initiative provides them. “to make ourselves known and to get scientists interested in our children’s illness, to be able to give them a better future.” In this sense, she has highlighted that the funds received by the association will be allocated to research, because “it is not very difficult to find doctors and researchers who care about this disease. “Research costs a lot, it is a long-distance race, but I hope our children can enjoy these medical advances.”

Route, registration and delivery of numbers

On this occasion, the test will consist of 3.8 kilometers, in which Riojans of all ages are called to participate. The race will depart at 11:00 am from El Espolón and will return to the same place. The route, once again, will be the same as in previous editions: the start will be in El Espolón and will run through María Zambrano, Gran Vía, Marqués de Murrieta, Portales streets, crossing the Iron Bridge and the Piedra Bridge. , will follow Navarra Avenue and end in El Espolón. Once there, all participants will be able to dance Zumba.

All of them will be given a runner’s bag, which includes a bottle of wine, a liter of milk, coffee, a technical t-shirt, a bracelet, an isotonic drink and candy for the little ones. The delivery of numbers will take place, as in the last edition, at the Palacio de los Deportes (in the Federations building), starting next Thursday, the 16th, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. They can also be collected on Friday the 17th (from 5 to 9 p.m.), on Saturday the 18th (from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and, on Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Concha del Espolón.

Registration, which is now open, can be done from the website www.correquetepillo.com.es, with a cost of 5 euros. All those who wish may also contribute to the cause through Row 0, accessible from the website of the aforementioned association. With the sponsorship of the regional Executive, Logroño Deporte, UNIR, the City Council of Logroño and Caja Rural de Navarra, and the collaboration of Diario LA RIOJA, among other entities and media, this year’s race returns to surpass the registrations of the previous editions, which range between 3,800 and 4,000. “We want to exceed these figures, every year we go full force, go for the maximum,” highlighted José Luis Roca, president of the ‘Corre que te pilo’ association before adding that “there are already 5,000 t-shirts made.”

In this sense, the manager of the Rioja Sports Foundation, Jesús Rioja, thanked, on behalf of the regional Executive and the aforementioned foundation, the development of this type of initiatives, which “contribute to that activity and physical exercise that has been pursued since the institutions. Above all, because this event constitutes “a simple test that can be run as a family to have a great time with the family and collaborate with the two associations that are represented.” In this sense, he has also expressed his gratitude “to all the people who collaborate altruistically to make this work” and has recalled that “for those people or families who cannot participate, there is a Row 0 in which they can contribute the amount they want. “In more and important support for the cause.”
