Emergency declared due to water shortage in Ibagué

The mayor of Ibagué, Johana Ximena Aranda, declared an emergency in the city due to a water shortage. The reason for this decision is the impact of rain on the Combeima intake, the main source of intake for the municipal aqueduct. which has generated intermittency and total absence of service in the last 24 hours.

Central Region: Huila: Rains cause damage to roads in 14 municipalities “We have been short of drinking water for 24 hours. We are facing an emergency in the provision of the service due to some bombs that have occurred in the Combeima basin, which has affected the intake at our intake,” said Aranda. Engineer Erika Palma, manager of the Ibaguereña Aqueduct and Sewage Company (IBAL), explained that the amount of drag material that arrived through the Combeima River at the intake, It clogged the sand traps, preventing the liquid from being captured. Apparently, rocks, dirt, sticks and other objects that accumulated in the river during the season of high temperatures, were dragged by the tributary to the aqueduct infrastructure, which caused the damage. “This material lasted for more than four or five months accumulated throughout the Combeima basin, at the moment when the rainfall began it led to this material damaging the catchment of the bottom intake. It collapsed, it blocked our collection and that is why we have not been able to enable or guarantee the provision“said the official. The company announced that operational personnel are working in this area to remove the blockage. If not achieved before noon, will begin the installation of a new conduction line, which would take another 24 hours.
