Although at the moment, some have police support, the Valle del Cauca government has continuously communicated with the National Protection Unit (UNP) to ensure the safety of officials who are in danger.
Only on Monday, May 6, the Government, through its Secretariat of Coexistence and Security, once again exposed, through a letter, the risk of threatened officials, for which they require ‘forcefulness in their protection’.

For the Secretary of Security and Coexistence, Ana María Sanclemente, this situation requires “institutional support and attention from the municipal, departmental and national levels.”

The official insisted on the call to the UNP to work jointly “to protect the lives of these threatened public servants and defend the institutions, it is urgent.”
It should be taken into account that an action for protection by the councilors of Jamundí and Tuluá was attached to the letter, to ask for protective measures for their lives. Likewise, they presented a communication from the Attorney General’s Office and its warning about the risk that officials run.

The head of Security and Coexistence recalled that from the Government, in an articulated manner with the Vallecaucan municipalitieshave established a series of protection measures, ranging from the activation of security routes to the Police Sponsor Plan.

“It is the National Protection Unit (UNP) that must determine the protection measures and this means vehicles, armored vests, protection men, those are the forceful measures that are being sought so that the councilors can go to meetings, so that they feel calm in the exercise of their duties,” added the former official.
