Postobón invested $788 million in a new water tank for Caloto, Cauca

Consistent with its purpose of bringing drinking water to the communities near its operation centers, Postobón made a new water storage tank available to the community of Caloto, Cauca, with which the capacity of the municipal aqueduct was expanded for the benefit of more than 8,000 people who live in the urban area.

This new tank, built in alliance with the Caloto Public Services Company (Empocaloto), has a storage capacity of 630 cubic meters and will allow the total capacity of the aqueduct to be increased 1.5 times, to reach 918 cubic meters of storage. In this way, the community will have water resources available 24 hours a day with better hydraulic capacity and pressure in the distribution networks.

$880 million were invested in this work, of which Postobón contributed $788 million, while Empocaloto contributed the equivalent of $92 million quantified in the lot and in the work audit.

Improve Life Quality

“Our vision of water management includes the communities surrounding our operations, for whom we strive to ensure that they have their right to the minimum vital amount of water. Under that premise, we contribute with water solutions like the one we are delivering in Caloto, with which, we are completely sure, we will contribute to improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of the municipality.”stated Martha Ruby Falla, director of sustainability at Postobón.

Before this work, the Caloto aqueduct had a tank that had been built more than 40 years ago, which, with its storage capacity of 288 cubic meters, was insufficient for the population’s demand. As a result of this, there were deficiencies in the provision of the service that forced the constant suspension of the service in the 10 neighborhoods of the municipality that spent an average of 10 days a month without water.

“Thank you Postobón for solving the need for drinking water for the people of Calote. The construction of this tank is a dream come true for a population that deserves great things.”said Oswaldo Velasco Daza, president of the Association of Community Boards of the municipality of Caloto.

In the coming days, Postobón’s corporate volunteers, together with community members and young artists from the municipality, will intervene on the walls of the tank with allegorical works to care for water with the aim of raising awareness and improving the physical appearance of this facility. public services.

Commitment to water care

Postobón’s premise within its sustainability model is comprehensive water management.

The construction of this new storage tank for the Caloto aqueduct joins 13 other water solutions including purification systems, renovations of water plants and installation of equipment and networks, which the company delivered in 2023 in the municipalities of Fonseca, La Guajira; San Juan de Urabá, Antioquia; Valledupar, César, and Sesquilé and Tocancipá, in Cundinamarca. In this way, 17,888 people began to benefit from permanent access to drinking water.

Since 2020, Postobón has managed 63 water solutions, fulfilling its purpose of bringing the vital minimum of water and constant access to the resource to communities, especially those close to its operation centers. These 63 water solutions have benefited 47,155 people.

Postobón also protects and conserves 29,484 hectares of key forests for the generation of water and the care of biodiversity and has reduced the water it uses by 44% per liter of beverage produced in the last 10 years.

The expansion included the construction of a new 630 cubic meter drinking water storage tank, which will allow for greater reserve capacity for water resources.

The total investment was $880 million, of which Postobón contributed 90% of the resources, for the benefit of more than 8,000 people in the municipality, who now have water availability 24 hours a day.

The new infrastructure was the result of joint work between Postobón and Empocaloto ESP

Since 2020, Postobón has delivered 63 solutions for water access in communities surrounding its work centers, with which it has benefited more than 47,000 people.
