Santiago de Cali, May 7, 2024

Recently, the Administrative Department of Planning, through the Spatial Data Infrastructure of Santiago de Cali (IDESC), carried out a series of workshops aimed at the GIS (Geographic Information System) and Cartography Group of the Subdirectorate of Territorial Planning . The main objective of these workshops was to improve the management of data and geographic information produced by the organization.

During the workshops, the importance of cataloging geographic objects, geographic metadata and geographic databases was highlighted. Clear concepts were provided about the standards implemented by the IDESC and their relevance in the definition, organization and documentation of geographic information. It was emphasized how these tools can improve the structuring, updating, production, storage and recovery of data, guaranteeing its integrity, quality, availability and accessibility for decision making.

The implementation of these practices not only benefits the internal management of the Mayor’s Office of Santiago de Cali, but also has a positive impact on the entire territory. Better management of geographic data facilitates planning, natural risk management, infrastructure and service development, and general decision-making. This promotes more efficient and sustainable development, contributing to the well-being of all citizens. Furthermore, the replication of these workshops in other organizations will promote comprehensive and coordinated management of geographic information throughout the District Administration.
