Citizens report a worrying situation regarding cell phone thefts in the south of Ibagué. Criminals, as some people mentioned, take advantage of traffic jams and red lights to carry out their criminal acts.

The most common modus operandi is the following: thieves approach public transport buses stopped at traffic lights and, taking advantage of the carelessness of passengers who use their cell phones next to the windows, they quickly snatch them and then flee the place before let them realize.

Last Monday afternoon, an attempted theft was recorded on the Combeima bridge, one of the areas most affected by this problem. A woman who was traveling on Route 82 almost became a victim of this type of robbery, but she managed to avoid it thanks to her quick reaction.

Unfortunately, the general perception among citizens is that these incidents have become common in the area, and that the police presence is insufficient to counteract this problem.

“In the south that is terrible. “There is a lot of theft of cell phones and bags,” said a woman who agreed to speak with Ecos del Combeima.
