The esplanade of the Rectorate of the National University of the Litoral (UNL) was the setting for the delivery of 40 new bicycles, with their corresponding helmets and lingas, to students who requested a mobility scholarship in the 2023 call. The activity took place recently and It was headed by the rector Enrique Mammarella; the Secretary of University Welfare, Cristian Vázquez; and the Secretary General of the Litoral University Federation (FUL), Brian Sotelo.

Every year, the Support Program for Studying at the University together with the Sustainable Mobility Area, deliver bicycles betting on sustainable mobility, understanding it as a tool for social transformation that has the capacity to reduce the externalities caused by the transportation system. current transportation.

Since 2015, the University has been providing these scholarships in order to promote safe and healthy mobility, promoting sustainable modes of mobility. From that year to the present, UNL delivered 350 bicycles to its students.

For a more sustainable city

“Today we made a special delivery of 40 new bicycles since, in addition to those destined for the city of Santa Fe, seven are for students from Esperanza and one from Reconquista. This is a decision of the students, who were the ones who requested the scholarship for this system,” said Rector Mammarella.

“We really want this generation to be the one to make the change so that all mobility scholarships are for bicycles, that we begin to live in a more sustainable and walkable city; that we generate a community that allows us to continue thinking that the city of Santa Faith deserves to be lived in close proximity and that we can quickly reach each of the places,” said the rector.

Finally, Mammarella urged students to “use bicycles responsibly, not only as university students but also as citizens.”

For his part, the Secretary of Welfare of the UNL remarked that “the delivery of bicycles is a policy that the University carries out with the idea of ​​contributing to development so that students can have a better quality of life using a of healthy and sustainable transportation”.

In this sense, Vázquez indicated: “We know that transportation is a complication in cities, so with this policy we help not only improve the quality of life of our community but also promote another means of transportation. We deliver bicycles with a linga and helmet because it is part of this system that they travel safely and responsibly on public roads.

Finally, Brian Sotelo stated that “at FUL we support these University Wellbeing policies every year and we consider that it is very important to focus on sustainable mobility for students because in recent years the use of bicycles as a means of transportation has increased. means of university transportation. It is an opportunity for students to continue pursuing their studies and for mobility in the city to be sustainable. In addition, it is a healthy activity for students.”

For her part, Valentina Guimar, student at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, said: “It is a great opportunity that these student scholarships are offered because it makes everything easier for us: from helping you with your budget, what you spend collectively, as well as getting around. and not move around sitting.
