This afternoon we set off on our way to the Almonteña village of Rocío the brotherhood of Córdobathe first of all and which marks the beginning of this festival that is celebrated on the solemnity of Pentecost in this point of the Huelva geography.
The pilgrims from Cordoba have more than 244 kilometers ahead of them before they can prostrate themselves before Our Lady of Rocío in her sanctuary. Many pilgrims walk this path, which is divided into nine stages that cross the provinces of Córdoba, Seville and Huelva, each of them ending at the so-called stops, where everyone gathers around the simpecado cart to celebrate the holy mass, officiated by the chaplain of the road, Tomás Pajuelo, and close the day in a happy atmosphere of coexistence.
The farewell to Córdoba
In the church of San Pablo, which is where the brotherhood of Rocío has its canonical headquarters, it will be celebrated this afternoon, at 4:30 p.m., the pilgrims mass, Once finished, the path will begin, which has an urban phase in the capital of Cordoba, where the horsemen and pilgrims will march to the Cathedral before setting off, already at dusk, to the first stop on the path, at the El Cañuelo farm.
From San Pablo they will march through the streets Capitulares, Diario de Córdoba, San Fernando, Cardenal González and Magistral González Francés, to enter the Cathedral of Cordoba around 7:00 p.m., where the bishop, Demetrio Fernandez, will proceed to say goodbye to the pilgrims.
After this act, the procession will resume its march through Magistral González Francés, Cardenal González, Cruz del Rastro, Puente de Miraflores, Carmen Olmedo, Virgen del Rocío gardens, Campo de la Verdad avenue, Santa Teresa SquareAvenida de Cádiz, Avenida de la Torrecilla, engineer Juan de la Cierva and Guadalcázar highway until you reach the El Cañuelo farm, where you will spend the night.
The way
Starting tonight, the brotherhood of Córdoba heads to the village of Rocío with a large delegation made up of more than fifty vehicles, between horse carriages, strollers, trucks and support vehicles.
All this effort made by the Rocieros of Cordoba will have its reward when on the afternoon of Friday, May 17, after crossing the Ajolí bridge, arrive at the Almonteña village. There, in the company of pilgrims arriving from the most diverse points, they will share the celebration that will culminate on Pentecost Monday with the procession of the image of Our Lady of Rocío.
