More than once, Law graduate Yadira Cutiño González, after extensive work in the State Directorate of Commerce, has dedicated extra hours to other tasks as part of the volunteer work of the Cuban Red Cross Las Tunas Branch, and “the pleasure of feeling useful dissipates the fatigue,” he confesses.

“It comforts me to prepare to be able to help people in need and very much the vulnerable in the event of disasters,” he says and for that strong reason he goes to each call to polish the skills necessary to take on the assignment.

And that is why on World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, which the world celebrates this May 8, it is worth recognizing the role of the workers in this very humane international organization, which in the province is a significant number among the more than 1,700 volunteers.

These are words of praise from Yaditzi Cutiño González, a graduate in Psychologist and specialist of the Cuban Red Cross Las Tunas Branch, who from her responsibilities is very close to the work of men and women distinguished by altruism, will and dedication, “As Yadira, they alternate their work duties with tasks of the institution motivated exclusively by the pleasure of serving others.”

He comments that without lucrative purposes they have a presence in any of the 22 work fronts established taking into account the territorial particularities, and they dedicate time, mainly on weekends, to their preparation on issues related to the missions entrusted to them.

“It is a practice aimed at minimizing risks, because they almost always work in crisis contexts and are in charge of helping, protecting and protecting the most vulnerable people,” says the enthusiastic young woman.

In that area it meant, among other programs, rescue and rescue programs “which we always do in close coordination with the fire departments and whose members are ready to provide their services in other nations if required; and, that of environmental protection against climate change together with the Territorial Delegation of Citma.”

He highlighted the efforts made and the results obtained on the front of reestablishing contact between family members led by the system of national societies from other countries that combine efforts and support the searches, which “in Las Tunas has allowed, from 1994 to date, to give them responses to more than 400 cases; and that of international humanitarian law, which emphasizes extending its significance among the most varied audiences.”

“In this task, the workers have a leading role, but their presence is also tangible in many training actions and in the exchanges that we carry out with that objective in local entities, we draw on their experiences that allow us to monitor potential risks and guide our actions in that sense. “, it states.

He highlighted the outstanding interrelationship with the Electric Company, Sepsa, INRE, the Territorial Division of Cupet, the Education and Health directorates, many of which add members to volunteering and support with categorized instructors in the preparation of this great force.

World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day was established on a date that coincides with the birth of Swiss banker Jean Henry Dunant, who made the suggestion after observing the mistreatment received by the wounded during the battle of Solferino, in Italy.

The Red Cross is recognized by the Cuban State as an auxiliary relief society of other public powers, and was founded on March 10, 1909 by the distinguished doctor Diego Tamayo.
