In a work meeting with members of the Tourism Promotion Commission chaired by the representative Liliana Flores Almazán, the Secretary of Tourism Juan Carlos Machinena and the president of the Board Ulices Mendoza, the “dark skies” project was analyzed.
One of its objectives is to achieve international certification, not only to be the first state in the country to achieve it, but to attract tourism but above all, to get new generations involved in science.
Armadillo de los Infante has one of the best skies in Mexico and the world to appreciate the stars, since light pollution has not affected it yet, as happens in urban areas where poor lighting points to the sky and that prevents optimal visibility.
Scientists believe that lighting should be applied only where it is necessarysince otherwise, it has serious consequences, such as illuminating trees at night, causing photosynthesis to not take place, and they cannot generate oxygen, or alter the life of birds.
Promoting cultural tourism is also important, because there are places like Cardenasvisited by scientists from all over the world because it is the area where fossils up to 30 million years old are best preserved, which are also unique species, when the place was underwater.
Representative Liliana Flores assured that, step by step, issues such as light pollution will be addressed so that, from now on, all new projects apply a certain type of non-harmful light and current lighting systems that break down are replaced with new, non-harmful ones.
The Secretary of Tourism, Juan Carlos Machinena Morales, also promised to contribute his part, to solve problems and generate new opportunities for new types of tourism in the entity, which are contemplated in the new law on the matter that is in progress.
