The Colombian Ministry of Education has announced that it will proceed to formalize and administer the school built by FARC dissidents in the department of Caquetá, named in honor of former guerrilla leader Gentil Duarte.
After an evaluation by the National Land Agency, it was determined that the school property is not located within the environmental reserve zone in that territory, which will allow the Ministry of Education to begin the procedures to formalize the institution.
The construction of the school in the El Triunfo hamlet, municipality of San Vicente del Caguán, generated controversy last month due to criticism of the state’s abandonment of these areas and the construction of educational centers by the guerrillas.

The Central General Staff -Emc, the main dissident of the FARC, has been involved in similar controversies for years, such as the delivery of ambulances in rural municipalities with little state presence, as a way to maintain territorial control.
Within the framework of the peace negotiations, delegations from the Government and the Emc visited El Triunfo. Now, the school will be called the Sabanas del Yarí Agroecological Institute, with a farm of 330 arable hectares, of which 150 are planted with rice, 100 with corn, 50 with sugar cane and four with bananas.
