Secretary of Health of Cauca resigns due to lack of trust and autonomy

Mario Jair Campo presented his resignation from the position of Secretary of Health of the department of Cauca, citing a profound lack of trust and autonomy on the part of the Government.

In his resignation letter, Campo expresses his discomfort at having been excluded from crucial decisions related to the appointment of managers in the State Social Enterprises, despite being the head of the health portfolio.

Furthermore, it denounces that the department’s Legal Office generates multiple information requirements in audits of the Ministry of Finance, ignoring the progress and processes already agreed upon and previously approved with the external evaluating personnel.

Another critical point is the lack of autonomy to hire trusted personnel in its secretariat, which has undermined its credibility by not being able to resolve the requirements of its team in a timely manner.

The straw that broke the camel’s back was the issuance of several decrees by the Government, in which orders, modifications and additions were made to the entity’s functions manual, without having the concept or approval of the Secretary of Health.

According to Campo, these actions demonstrate the total absence of trust in his management and leadership, overlooking his authority as the head of the health portfolio.

The resignation of the Secretary of Health of Cauca has generated a great stir in the department, since it reveals a deep crisis of governance and lack of articulation in one of the most sensitive sectors for the population.

Given this situation, statements are expected from both the Government and the different actors in the health sector, who must address this problem and restore trust and leadership in a portfolio so crucial for the well-being of Caucanos.
