This Friday, May 10 at 6 p.m. The presentation of the book “The reception of the thought of José Carlos Mariátegui in Chile 1926-1973” is held in the Valparaíso Profundo cultural space located on the Fisher scale of Cerro Concepción.

In the five chapters that make up this book, the author, Patricio Gutiérrez, develops a valuable and clarifying philological work that gives an account of the reception that Mariátegui’s thought had in Chile, and how his figure transcends the Peruvian scene, consolidating at a continental level.

In the development of the book, the role of the work that the Peruvian carried out in the media stands out, thus consolidating them as tools of creation and social struggle, in search of that always distant emancipatory possibility.

“Within the framework of our critical spirit that we have always cultivated, having this presentation seems completely coherent to us since Mariátegui’s work, due to its density, had a strong impact on all intellectuals in Latin America,” said Alejandra Jiménez, Director of Valparaíso Profundo.

A quick loss

José Carlos Mariátegui was a Peruvian writer, journalist, politician and Marxist philosopher who, despite dying at just 36 years of age, is considered the most vigorous and original Marxist thinker that Latin America has ever known.

His intellectual work was accompanied by his political practice, he was the founder in 1928 of the Peruvian Socialist Party (which, after his death, would split between the Socialist Party of Peru and the Communist Party of Peru) and in 1929 he created the General Confederation of Workers From Peru.
