The Municipality of La Banda reports on oral complications related to Dengue – Municipality of La Banda

Within the framework of the campaign to combat dengue, the General Director of the Community Integration Center (CIC) San Carlos, dentist Eduardo Soisa, provides information about the oral complications associated with this disease and the importance of taking precautions.

According to Soisa, dengue can cause various complications, including an increase in white blood cells, hepatitis and changes in platelets, which can have repercussions on the oral health of patients.

In this regard, Soisa warns: “It is essential to exercise caution during dental procedures, since the alteration of platelets can cause bleeding.” Laboratory studies are recommended until blood values normalize.

Among the most common oral complications associated with dengue, Soisa mentions redness of the oral mucosa, bleeding gums, petechiae (small purple or brown spots due to hemorrhages under the skin), coated tongue (whitish or yellowish layer on the dorsal surface of the tongue), xerostomia (decreased salivary secretion), bitter taste, pain in the temporomandibular joint, sensation of tooth mobility and burning tongue.

‘Platelets play a crucial role in the healing process, so when levels are low, the risk of bleeding increases. Therefore, it is essential to maintain constant monitoring of oral health during and after suffering from dengue,” highlights Soisa.

The Secretary of Health, Julio César Scabuzzo, expressed: “Prevention, constant monitoring and early care are essential to avoid complications associated with dengue and preserve the oral health of those who suffer from this disease.”

This initiative is part of the preventive actions promoted by the management of Mayor Eng. Roger Nediani, through the Health Secretariat of the Municipality of La Banda, seeking to guarantee the protection of the population against the dengue virus and its possible complications.
