Urban transport will seek to level the rate on a national scale

Segundo Ricalde, representative of urban transportation of Santa Cruz, confirmed that he will participate in the meeting to which they were called by the national leadership this Friday, in the city of La Paz. The most important point to discuss will be the leveling of transportation rates, according to him.

Where and when do transporters meet?

“The appointment is scheduled for Friday, May 10, at 10:00 in the city of La Paz. We have been summoned to deal with the leveling of passages, mainly“Ricalde confirmed in time to clarify that as a guest he still does not know if any representative of the national government will also participate in the event.

The Santa Cruz leader explained that they will bring three proposals to this meeting. The first aims at leveling passages; second, the release of tariffs for the import of bus supplies; and finally, the support of financial entities under the denomination of production loans, as they do with other sectors.

For the moment, the leader avoided indicating how much the ‘levelization of rates’ would amount to, since this is subject to a cost study of both the transportation sector and the commune.

The national government has already responded to this demand

In February of this administration, the ministers of Economy and Public Works, Marcelo Montenegro and Édgar Montaño, respectively, They recalled that it is the responsibility of the mayors to define the cost of the tickets. Likewise, they reaffirmed that the fuel subsidy for urban transportation continues.

“Our government is taking care of the pockets of Bolivians and there is no authorization for the international, interdepartmental loading of (increase in price) tickets. It is clearly an issue, as the Constitution (State Policy) says, that is the responsibility of the municipalities.“said Montaño.

The Minister of Economy said that It is important to note that the topic “is directed at the municipal level, so, through working groups, the decisions will be evaluated.”

The municipal Legislature warned that they will not allow the increase

In February of this year, the Councilor for the Autonomous Community, Juan Carlos Medrano, warned that “As councilors we are not going to allow under any point of view the price of the ticket (for public transport) to increase by even 10 cents”.

Medrano pointed out that the public transportation sector has a “highly profitable” business and that an increase in the price of the ticket is not justified. “The transporters have up to 10, 15, 20 buses in some cases. So they are not starving“, he stated, on that occasion.
