The Legislature approved the “Young Legislators” program

The project, called “Young Voice”, was unanimously approved this morning by the province’s Legislature so that, starting next year, students in the 5th and 6th year of secondary schools in the province (and 7th in the case of schools) technical) can propose ideas and convert them into bills, to be presented by a representative of the course in the context of an ordinary session, living firsthand the role of ‘deputy for a day’, presenting, defending and debating the project in The enclosure.

Each institution will be able to register to participate in the program, which has seats for 27 institutions in the province, which will be occupied by a student chosen by their peers, represented by regions. If there are more than 27 registered participants, the seats will be determined by drawing by lottery, carried out by the General Legislation Commission.

The initiative was presented by Deputy Emanuel Fernández and was approved unanimously this Wednesday.

“To ensure fair and equitable representation. Not only will there be quotas by region, but institutions that participate one year will not be able to do so the next, except for a free quota in their region, to guarantee the participation of all those who want to join,” clarifies Deputy Fernández. This was determined because it is a reliable representation of the Legislature: There will only be 27 ‘Young legislators‘ in the session that, in principle, will be held once a year.

“What we are looking for with this project is to encourage the participation of young people and for them to understand how important politics is for the life of a democratic and committed society. “That they understand the transformative tool that it is, that they understand what we deputies do, what our powers are, but also our limitations and, above all, the responsibility that political life implies,” described the deputy.

He added that young people “will have the opportunity to express themselves during the work they do with their institution, to propose ideas and projects, to be able to learn how to write a project and what it means to carry it out. Have the opportunity to be encouraged to debate all topics without ideological bias and then also be able to negotiate, be able to exchange points of view and put them into practice, and reinforce or even discover their abilities such as, for example, oratory.”
