In a record-breaking chase, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 10 wickets at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in match 57 of Tata IPL 2024 on Wednesday. The breathless chase created several records. This was the highest total (166) chased within the first 10 overs in T20 cricket.
The 167-run partnership between SRH openers – Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head – was the quickest. The win in 9.4 overs with 62 balls remaining is the biggest ever while chasing a 100+ target. This season, SRH have smashed 146 sixes so far. This is the highest ever for any team in one season. Sunrisers Hyderabad have become the first team ever in the history of IPL to score over 100 runs inside the powerplay.
While Head accumulated 89 runs from 30 balls, Sharma scored 75 runs off 28 deliveries. Both openers remained unbeaten throughout their innings. Together, they hit 16 boundaries and 14 sixes. Despite their efforts, Uppal’s defeat leaves KL Rahul and his team in sixth place with 12 points.
Earlier in the evening, Lucknow Super Giants chose to bat after winning the toss but struggled during the powerplay. Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran injected some life into the innings, allowing LSG to post a total of 165/4 in 20 overs.
