Athletes from the region shone at the Para Araucanía Games

The regional delegation was made up of athletes from the communes of Osorno, Puyehue, Llanquihue, Frutillar, Maullín, Puerto Montt and Castro, who competed in the disciplines of para athletics and swimming.

Twenty-seven medals were won by athletes from the Los Lagos Region, who participated in the IV Para Araucanía Games, held in Santa Rosa in Argentina.

The delegation obtained sixteen gold medals, seven silver and four bronze medals.

In athletics, the gold medals went to Pablo Contreras from Puerto Montt in the 800, 1500 and 5000 meter dash, class T13, Vicente Ramírez de Maullín in the 400 and 800 meter dash T36, Víctor Ojeda de Castro in the 100 and 400 T54 meter dash, Pilar Truyao de Puyehue in the discus, shot put and javelin throws, class F13, Noelia Erice de Castro in the 800 T20 meter dash and Maikol Sánchez de Castro in the T54 800 meter dash.

While the silver medals were won by Maikol Sánchez de Castro in the 100 and 400 meter dash, class T54, Ivana Maripán in the 400 and 800 meter dash T20, Vicente Ramírez in the 1500 meter dash T36 and Javiera Tureuna de Castro 200 flat meters, class T20.

Meanwhile, Carlos Grandón from Osorno achieved third place in the discus and shot put, class F20, Javiera Tereuma in the 400 meter dash T20 and Noelia Erice de Castro in the 200 meter dash, class T20.

In the para swimming discipline: Angelina Ampuero Almonacid from Llanquihue won three gold medals in the 200 meter medley, 100 meter freestyle and 50 meter freestyle events and finally, Joaquín Frêne Troquián from Frutillar won a gold medal in the 50 meter freestyle and a silver medal. in the 100 meter freestyle.

The Seremi of Sports, Carolina Urrutia Soto, congratulated the athletes who represented the region in this competition for the medals obtained, pointing out that “Our commitment to the athletes is, we know that this instance becomes the preview of the National Sports Games and Paranationals, announced a few days ago by our Minister Jaime Pizarro, but particularly, we are happy for the results achieved by our athletes in the Para Araucanía Games held in Santa Rosa, achieving 27 medals in total, 16 gold, 7 silver and four bronze medals, far surpassing the previous version held in Temuco, where they returned with 17 medals, of which eight were gold, two silver and one bronze in athletics and five gold and one silver in swimming.” .

For his part, the Regional Director (S) of the IND, Ernesto Villarroel Jaramillo, stated that “our athletes shone in Argentina, in these Games that brought together the Chilean delegations from the regions of Ñuble, Bío Bío, Araucanía, Los Ríos, Los Lagos, Aysén and Magallanes and the Argentine provinces of La Pampa, Neuquén, Río Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego. Without a doubt, it was a great experience for them and I hope they enjoyed their stay while the different competitions were developed.”
