The relationship between the media and politics, the proliferation of hate speech, the direction of Javier Milei’s government and the role of the opposition were some of the topics they discussed Nora Veiras and Diego Brancatelli in the third of Saturday’s talks in the AM 750 stand at the Book Fair.

“What affects millions of people is rarely on the front page, except in very few exceptions,” said Nora Veiras, journalistic director of Page 12 and driver of the cycle Listen to Page/12. Here, there and everywhere, which is broadcast from Monday to Friday at 4 p.m. on AM 750. Veiras considered that measures such as cutting pensions, freezing the delivery of food to soup kitchens or suspending the provision of oncological medications “also do not seem to move not only the means but the people”, and added that, in the case of the elimination of the pension moratorium, “on top of that blame to those who do not have contributions”.

The journalist referred to the existence of “hate speech that is more than worrying“, and mentioned the brutal lesbian attack occurred days ago in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Barracas, about which he maintained that “it is not read as a consequence of the hate speech spread in the media and networks with total irresponsibility,” despite the fact that its circulation “translates into real crimes.”

In relation to the Argentine political situation, Veiras considered that the arrival of Javier Milei to Casa Rosada “It is the result of the failure of traditional politics to provide answers to the great majorities“, although he also highlighted the role played by the hegemonic media in denigrating the “capacity for transformation” of politics. Regarding the opposition, he stated that “the media help to naturalize a discourse that is absolutely devaluator of the role that a true opposition should play in Argentina,” and criticized the concept of ‘friendly opposition’.”It is an opposition that delivers“, he stated in relation to the political spaces that are willing to accompany the projects of the far-right government.

For its part, Diego Brancatellidriver Branca back from 6 to 9 p.m. on the same Grupo Octubre station, highlighted the frontal attack against the State carried out by the libertarian administration. “There is a totally clear plan that they are carrying out almost to perfection: the need to demonstrate that it is inefficient,” he said and added that “Javier Milei is convinced that the State is useless, he would love for it to not exist. There is a decision to demonstrate that there are too many employees and the State is useless, and until it achieves its goal, They’re not going to stop.”

The journalist emphasized the consequences which causes the massive dismissal of state workers who were part of fundamental departments, such as ANSES or PAMI. “They are going to make people say that they are useless,” he said. Another example that he mentioned is the adjustment applied to the operation of the railroad network, in relation to the accident that recently occurred on the San Martín line, which left dozens of people injured. “They had fired people who repaired locomotives and carriages, who were dedicated to recovering train signals or controlling safety. They didn’t throw out any gnocchi”, he remarked.

In the final section of the talk, the microphone was opened for questions from the public. One of them referred to the possibility of creating a political alternative that he can eventually face Javier Milei. “Today I don’t see a leader, although Axel Kicillof is the one who may have the most immediate future, if there is no internal cannibalism that destroys that possibility,” said Veiras, who recalled the unexpected emergence of Néstor Kirchner in 2003. “Argentine history gives us hope”.
