A new trial begins today for multiple murderer Roberto Carmona

In the city of Córdoba, a new trial will begin today against the dangerous serial killer Roberto José Carmona, this time for the crimes of evasion and robbery qualified by the use of a weapon and homicide criminis causa. He will be in the Eighth Nomination Criminal Chamber.

In this debate, three facts attributed to the accused Carmona will be analyzed. The first refers to the death of taxi driver Javier Rodrigo Bocalón, who was approached by the accused, after escaping from the house where he made a temporary exit. According to the accusation, Carmona stabbed Bocalón and caused his death to take over the taxi and ensure his escape from the scene.

The other facts for which he is accused refer to the theft of two cars on public roads to continue his escape on the afternoon of December 13, 2022. In both cases, he also used a knife to intimidate his victims.

The court will be chaired by chambermaid Marcelo Nicolás Jaime and made up of Juan Manuel Ugarte and Eugenio Pérez Moreno, along with popular juries.

The prosecution will be led by Chamber Prosecutor Hugo Almirón; while the accused will be represented by public defender Aníbal Zapata. There will be two private plaintiffs: the father of the taxi driver who died and one of the victims of the vehicle theft, who will be sponsored by lawyer Carlos R. Nayi.

Throughout his criminal career, Carmona claimed six lives: two on the street and four while in custody.

The first crime was committed on January 15, 1986, when he raped and murdered the young woman from Córdoba, Gabriela Ceppi, 16 years old, with a shot to the head, taking advantage of the fact that she had been stranded with her friends returning from Carlos Paz. Despite escaping, the Police managed to catch him in Buenos Aires.

In 1988, he was sentenced to life, with indefinite confinement, so he could never regain his freedom.

But the second of his homicides occurred while he was in prison, when he wounded Martín Castro, a cellmate in the old Cordoba prison in the San Martín neighborhood, with a knife.

Six years later, in December 1994 and in the same penitentiary, he ended the life of another inmate, Héctor Bolea.

Carmona was then transferred to a maximum security prison in Resistencia, Chaco, where in July 1997 he killed Demetrio Pérez Araujo.
