While the debate over the Bases law and the fiscal package remains stuck in the Senate, the radical Martín Lousteau came out to ask for three specific changes to accompany the projects. His vote is one of those that is expected to be key for them to move forward. “There are three things that are missing from the fiscal package and the basic law. The first is a recomposition of retirements and pensions, which have lost a large percentage since this government took office.”Lousteau said in a video uploaded to his social networks during the evening today. “The second is financing for universities,” continued the legislator for the City of Buenos Aires, a district that renews its senatorial seats next year. According to Lousteau, “operating expenses fell a lot and are at risk of being able to continue.”

Thirdly, the head of the UCR made it clear that Argentina is “full of small public works that have very little left to be completed” and that “It is more expensive to stop them and let them fall than to end the financing.”

When it comes to vote pooling in the Senate, Lousteau is one of those who could be key to the approval or rejection of projects, given the division of forces in the Chamber. The ruling party is a minority and needs allies to advance. If there are changes, the debate will return to Deputies, but at least the Government will be able to score another partial victory.

The Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Francos, affirmed that the national government has “sufficient votes” to approve the Bases Law that President Javier Milei is promoting in Congress, after the half-sanction that the norm obtained in Deputies. “We have enough votes to approve the law. It is more than a feeling, it is the relationship and the conversation we have with senators. On some particular issues differences may arise, many of which we will include in the office because they clarify some aspects,” Franco said in radio statements.

Along these lines, the official maintained that the Upper House has “a different complexity” than the Lower House in terms of approval of the Base Law. ““I’m not worried that there will be modifications that improve the law and then the Deputies will discuss it and say whether they approve it or not.”
