OpenAI once again broke the internet and the technology market with an update to GPT, the most attractive artificial intelligence engine to date.

There may be discussions regarding the superiority or not of this particular product, but the truth is that OpenAI has managed to make a deep impact in the community through the impact of its presentations and consolidating itself in the now iconic ChatGPT.

The GPT-4o is presented as an AI that manages to interact with the user and their environment almost immediately and in a multimodal way, with sound and visual input and output. On average (depending on the complexity of the order), latency was reduced from about 5 seconds to just milliseconds.

The video published this Monday within the framework of the official announcement shows a series of actions that the tool has incorporated or enhanced in its new version.

The direct dialogue with the user can occur in audio format and with a small emotional seal by the AI, which attempts to get closer to a human dialogue. This interaction exceeds the capacity of traditional conversational tools and takes it to a new level in the science fiction saga in which technology is immersed.

Within the list of examples, two uses stand out that would surpass the mere role of work assistant that AI fulfilled. In the first of them, the OpenAI tool acts as an almost immediate translator in an English-Spanish conversation.

In the second of them, after making descriptions of particular contexts by simply pointing them with the device’s camera, it collaborates with a blind person when detecting the arrival of a released taxi and provides instructions on how to take it.

The CEO of the firm, Sam Altman, had written prior to the official announcement that the work carried out seemed “magical” to him.

In that publication, he clarified in the face of rumors that the presentation would not be about the expected GPT-5 or a superior search engine, eventual launch with Microsoft.

How to use the new GPT

Although the company announced that it will be available to all users on the official platform, paid accounts continue to have an advantage.

The GPT-4o arrives first for the premium ones and then, as usual, it is deployed to the rest. Despite the small discrimination, it is still a big leap.

Payments will also reach the version published at the official launch, while normal users will see the AI capabilities reduced. It was not detailed whether the jump will be progressive and by default everyone will already have the traditional GPT-4.

“There will be a limit on the number of messages free users can send with GPT-4o based on usage and demand. When the limit is reached, ChatGPT will automatically switch to GPT-3.5 so users can continue their conversations,” OpenAI said.

ChatGPT Plus is the title of the paid version, which currently costs $20 per month.

For macOS users, an application linked to premium devices and one in development for Windows is available.
