The Seremi de Salud de Maule, María Gloria Icaza Noguera, called on the population to get vaccinated against influenza, stating that emergency care has been increasing, especially related to respiratory diseases.

“We have noticed that With the increase in cold weather, emergency consultations have been increasingHowever, what we have observed this year is that the syncytial virus is very lower compared to last year. It is still early for a forecast for the rest of the winter, but we are hopeful that this decline will continue. The viruses circulating until last week were influenza and rhinovirus,” she noted.

Along the same lines and in relation to inoculation against influenza, the authority stated that “we still have time to do it. Our region has a good vaccination percentage in relation to the national percentage, we are at 63.5% of the target population versus 54% at the country level. “We call on people aged 60 and over, who were not previously a target group, to get vaccinated and also on pregnant women.”

Regarding the availability of beds in health facilities, Icaza stated that “there is an increase in hospitalizations, but we have a regional and macro-zonal hospital network with O’Higgins and with the entire country, where there is continuous monitoring of the beds and the needs to move (patients) within the region and outside are seen. The system is increasing the load, but still with some slack. There is a daily bed control. The network is better prepared. There is good coordination management.”
