The intense search work continues for a professional soldier from the 23rd Brigade of the National Army, who disappeared four days ago while carrying out a search and control operation in a rural area.

In a statement, the 23rd Brigade of the National Army reported that they are still searching for the soldier who was swept away by the flooding of the San Juan River while carrying out security duties in the rural area of ​​Cumbal.

Despite intensive search efforts, which include collaboration with the Ecuadorian Army, the soldier has not yet been found.

Colonel Pedro Murillo, commander of the military unit, reported that the platoon, made up of at least 40 men from the José María Cabal Number 3 Cavalry Battalion of Ipiales, was carrying out registration and control operations in the Numbi village of the municipality of Cumbal when the incident occurred.

During a military operation aimed at guaranteeing the safety of the local population, professional soldier Jaime Caicedo Correa is swept away by the strong current of the San Juan River while trying to cross it.

From the moment of the incident, a special search and rescue device was deployed, which includes the participation of specialized agencies and the use of unmanned aircraft.

Despite these efforts, the missing soldier has so far not been located.

Colonel Murillo explained that search actions have intensified in the area and have been coordinated with the Ecuadorian Army to reinforce the work on the shared banks of the San Juan River.

Despite these joint efforts, the results remain negative so far.

In response to this tragic situation, the National Army has maintained constant communication with the family of soldier Caicedo, providing support and accompaniment through an interdisciplinary group of professionals from the Army Family Center.

The commander of the Twenty-Third Brigade thanked the collaboration of the inhabitants of both Colombia and Ecuador, who have joined the search for the missing soldier, and reiterated the call to the population to provide any information that may help locate him.
