Annabelle, Chucky and M3GAN are going to have to share a shelf with a new toy: Atomic Monster and Blumhouse prepare ‘SOULM8TE’, a film within the ‘M3gan’ universe but with a “new technological twist.” According to Deadline’s description of the project, it will be something like “an erotic thriller from the ’90s” and will be about a man who buys an android with artificial intelligence to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. A harmless robot programmed for love will end up becoming your soul mate from beyond.

‘M3GAN’ (Universal Pictures)

‘SOULM8TE’ will be directed by Kate Dolan, responsible for several short films, the horror film ‘You Are Not My Mother’ and has also directed episodes of the series ‘The Tourist’ and ‘Kin’. Dolan has reworked the script from a draft by Rafael Jordan based on an original idea by Jordan, James Wan and Ingrid Bisu. Its premiere is scheduled for Friday, January 2, 2026. and will feature Wan, Jason Blum, Bisu, Michael Clear and Judson Scott in the production.

“Basically, I see this movie as an investigation into relationships and loneliness,” Dolan said during the film’s announcement, “Despite technological advances, there are enduring human truths that we can’t escape, and I hope to delve deeper into that.” “.

Creating a franchise

It is understandable that Blumhouse wants to continue exploiting the tremendous success that was ‘M3GAN’, which grossed more than 181 million dollars worldwide from a budget of only 12 million. Shortly after its premiere, a sequel, ‘M3GAN 2.0’, was launched, which after several delays, will finally hit theaters on June 27, 2025.

‘M3GAN 2.0’ is directed by Gerard Johnstone from a script by Akela Cooper and it stars again Allison Williams and Violet McGraw, who are joined by Ivanna Sakhno. Amie Donald and Jenna Davis will once again be the body and voice of the terrifying M3gan.
