The revaluation of access to the city

The revaluation of access to the city

A few days ago it was reported on the plan to recover access to the city carried out by the Municipality of San Miguel de Tucumán, which consists of cleaning, lighting and conditioning the East and North entrances. In addition, work will be done on the Juan Domingo Perón highway to the airport. This first stage, which will be completed on July 9, will be followed by a project to revalue the other accesses to the city along Néstor Kirchner Avenue from National Route 38; along Papa Francisco Avenue in San Cayetano and along national route 9 in San Andrés, a task that would take another 180 days.

The work will consist of cleaning, weeding and lighting and incorporating grass in the two blocks from the Barros Bridge and Alfredo Palacios Street, to the north. Road signs, trees, security boxes will also be added and the missing sidewalks will be recomposed. Later, reaching the San Miguel Arcángel roundabout, the restoration of the road demarcation, the repair of the road and the placement of road posts on the triangular island will be carried out. The sculpture of Saint Michael the Archangel will also be restored, the concrete caps will be replaced, paving stones will be maintained and new lighting will be installed. On Circunvalación Avenue, the portico and slopes will be renovated, the signage will be replaced with another, and a bike lane will be built on a path located between Alfredo Palacios Street and the bridge.

Regarding the North access, which connects Las Talitas with San Miguel de Tucumán starting from the Lisandro de la Torre diagonal, the Municipality will build 550 meters of bike lane, as part of the bike path project on the way to El Cadillal. Cleaning and weeding tasks will also be carried out, new pavement paint and road signs will be placed, and the road that includes the Lisandro de la Torre diagonal will be repaired.

This revaluation coincides with the Comprehensive Safety Plan, announced 40 days ago by the Province, for the Circunvalación highway from the northern access to the southern sector in Los Aguirre. Three police checkpoints were enabled and permanent weeding of the side and border sectors along the road and improvement of public lighting with 50 lights that extend the network by 500 meters was ordered.

These programs address a years-old problem that requires much more than good intentions. It is an intensely populated but very poorly urbanized sector, in which both cleaning and lighting initiatives have failed due to a lack of adequate security strategies, as a result of which no maintenance was sufficient. The North and East entrances, mainly, have suffered thefts and constant vandalism of lighting fixtures and cables, and several sectors have been deposits of debris and garbage, as well as the scene of accidents and robberies and assaults.

It is to be hoped that as the tasks advance in this first stage of the revaluation of the accesses, the commitment of the other municipalities -Banda del Río Salí and Alderetes-, as well as the commune of Los Aguirre and National Roads, will also be achieved, to that in a coordinated manner it is possible to prioritize and change the unfortunate situation of these areas, which are the first face of the capital that those who arrive in the province see, and which should always generate the feeling of welcome.
