The physical education teacher at a school in Punta Arenas, María Antonieta Inol, fulfilled her dream of reaching the base camp of Mount Everest (the highest in the world).

The Magellan professor, who has also been a firefighter for the Rescue Unit for 20 years, He made the trip in the company of six other Chileans. Along with them, there were people of Argentine, Uruguayan, Mexican and American nationality.

“As we were carrying the flag of our region, several foreign people recognized us and associated it with the Torres del Paine,” the teacher told El Pingüino, explaining her photos on Everest with the flag of the Magallanes region.

“I always wanted to go to Everest, it was always my dream”added Inol, who reached the 5,360 meter altitude of the base camp during the 12 days he was in the mountain range of Nepal.

But the Magellan professor also had time to visit the areas surrounding Mount Everest, where she was able to visit Edmund Hillary School (named after the first man to climb this mountain).

“The school director helped me. They are Buddhists. We had interpreters there, because their language is Nepali and, obviously, they received us very happy. The director blessed me, he gave me a scarf (khata),” explained María Antonieta Inol, who donated a set of pencils and erasers to the school students.

“I greeted the children and many of them already speak English, because there is a foundation that works with them, which also teaches them Chinese. All the children are very happy, in general, the Nepalese people are very happy,” the teacher from Punta Arenas also commented.
