The president of the Compromiso Tucumán bloc, Claudio Viña, explained that the project seeks to prevent minors from entering virtual casinos and limit advertising

The president of the Alfarista bloc Compromiso Tucumán, Claudio Viña, presented a bill to modify law 8986 and begin regulating the operation and access to online betting sites in the province.

This law, as he pointed out, is his authorship and has been in force since 2017. “The degree of application and compliance of the rule is very relative so, I understand, it is time to relaunch it and complement it to address a new and dangerous type of gambling. , such as online betting,” he argued.

Since 2018, the online casino market has not stopped growing and is estimated to reach 19 million people in the country. At the same time, the sector generated revenues of approximately $2.5 billion at the end of 2022, which clearly indicates that these are million-dollar businesses.

“In our province there is no legislation on this matter. Betting pages or virtual casinos ruthlessly access the cell phones and electronic devices of young people and children who, many times without any requirement or identity verification, bet from their virtual wallets the money that their parents may have transferred to them with another destination,” he indicated. Vineyard.

According to the Alfarista leader, the danger increases when many of these online casinos are sponsors of the National Team or soccer teams such as Boca or River, which generates a very direct channel of access to society in general and, to the adolescents and children in particular.

If the bill is approved, he explained, validation or authorization by the Popular Savings Bank will be required, the entry of biometric data to prevent access to minors and the limitation or regulation of advertising so that it is not misleading. nor directed at minors, among other measures.

All of this must be complemented by the Secretary of Prevention and Assistance against Addictions, through awareness campaigns and the creation of care facilities for those who have compulsive gambling problems and require specialized help.
