The Undersecretary of Disaster Prevention and Attention of the department of Atlántico asks the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, Ungrd, to be present in the rural area of ​​the municipality of Malambo, in order to find a solution to the problems of erosion of the western bank of the Magdalena River that threatens to flood the Caimital and Espinal paths, and would affect the municipalities of Soledad and Sabanagrande.

Nelson Oquendo, Undersecretary of Disaster Prevention and Attention, insisted, at the end of a second technical table where the critical situation in the area was evaluated, that it is necessary for the director of the Ungrd, Carlos Carrillo, to review the critical situation that is presenting in this sector of the municipality.

“This is the opportunity to call on the national director of the Risk Management Unit to be present in this situation, which is quite critical, because it not only affects the towns of Caimital and Espinal, but also several sectors of the municipality of Malambo. , and if it increases it will also affect the municipalities of Sabanagrande and Soledad. There will be three municipalities that will be affected by an imminent flood,” said Oquendo.

He assured that for a week, and on repeated occasions, a call has been made to the Ungrd to visit the area. “Last week, the technical assistance of the Ungrd was requested to visit the sector and we are waiting for a positive response. Also this Tuesday, via telephone we presented the case in the crisis room of the National Unity and on the same day from yesterday we reiterate again.”

While a positive response is obtained from the director of the Ungrd, immediate actions were agreed upon; initially the intervention of the most critical points with the placement of big bags (bags filled with sandy material) of 1.6 tons per cubic meter as containment dams, indicated the official.

The Atlantic government committed to delivering 1,000 big bags this Friday, plus the allocation of yellow machinery, made up of four dump trucks and a backhoe, to facilitate the transportation of the material that will be used in the reinforcement of jarillons.

For his part, the Risk Management coordinator of the municipality of Malambo, Edwar Torres, said that once the calamity was declared in the Caimital village, a month ago, they have a budget of 100 million pesos to protect about 60 families. who live in the affected area and who are dedicated to agriculture.

He also explained that with the help announced by the Government, plus the collaboration of personnel from the Vergara and Velasco Battalion, and businessmen from the industrial zone, this weekend they will proceed with immediate reinforcement with a wall of big bags in critical points for try to avoid flooding while making definitive solutions.

Oquendo announced that next Tuesday, May 28, a third technical work table will be held to evaluate the result of the immediate actions, as well as to know the report of two measurements that were requested from Cormagdalena; one related to the bathymetry in the most affected area of ​​Caimital and another to the topography of the terrain to proceed to take other solution measures.
