To encourage citizen participation in the next federal and local elections on June 2, the Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Services (Canaco-Servytur) has launched an initiative.

The president of Canaco-Servytur, Fernando Díaz de León Hernándezannounced that several local businesses will offer discounts of up to 50 percent on products and services to people who show their painted finger as proof of having voted.

This strategy, he explained, seeks not only to encourage voting, but also to strengthen democracy and promote the active participation of citizens.

Díaz de León Hernández emphasized that the current election is crucial and the largest in the history of Mexico, so it is essential that all sectors get involved.

“Businesses affiliated with the Chamber of Commerce will have the freedom to decide what type of discounts or promotions they will offer on election day or even the day after,” he explained.

In this sense, convenience stores will participate, giving away coffee to those who show their painted finger, to other establishments that will join the initiative; the invitation is open to everyone.

In addition to encouraging participation, it is expected that this measure will generate a positive economic impact for businesses established in San Luis Potosí.

“The idea is that consumers prefer local products and services, thus contributing to the economic development of the region on this important electoral date.”

Regarding the expectations and demands towards the candidates for mayor of the capital, Díaz de León Hernández said that Canaco-Servytur has maintained an open dialogue with different political parties.

“We need them to listen to the proposals and needs of the tertiary sector, and that is a priority.”

They expect the elected candidates to fulfill campaign promises related to issues such as public safety, road safety, mobility, support for tourism and support for micro, small and medium-sized businesses.

“Civil society, merchants and candidates have a unique opportunity to work together for the benefit of San Luis Potosí. “Voting is a powerful tool, and this initiative demonstrates how the business sector can actively contribute to strengthening democracy.”
