After a successful close of 2023 with performances in Vicuña, Coquimbo and Andacollo, the Coquimbo Philharmonic Orchestra will once again perform in two cities in the region thanks to financing from the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, through its Program of Support to Collaborating Cultural Organizations.

This professional musical group belongs to the Coquimbo Philharmonic Foundation and has the artistic direction of Ninoska Medel, and for the present 2024 it plans to once again extend the creation of audiences in the Coquimbo Region, presenting the show “Cantos del mar bohemio of Coquimbo, a tribute to Dvořák” this May 31, at 6:30 p.m., in the town hall building of the Municipality of Coquimbo.

It will also be on June 1, at 5:30 p.m., at the San Rafael de Rosas School in Illapel.

Repertoire

The repertoire that the Orchestra will perform is related to a very special celebration: “this repertoire has been chosen to celebrate the fifth year of the Orchestra’s life, and includes Arturo Márquez’s Danzón N°2, Alfonso’s Andante Leng, and Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor, better known as New World,” explains Ninoska Medel.

In the words of the Artistic Director, Borjak’s Ninth Symphony was added, due to the magnitude of this work: “and because of how great it is, and also, Márquez’s danzón number 2 for this festive occasion that we are experiencing as a group, In addition to the Latin American touch, the rhythms so typical of our continent. And it should be noted that Alfonso Lenk’s Andante is one of the most recognized works in the Chilean repertoire, and the Coquimbo Philharmonic is characterized by making a lot of music created by Chilean composers.

Active role to democratize culture

“In order to contribute to cultural democratization, the Coquimbo Philharmonic Orchestra performs outreach concerts in remote areas of the Coquimbo-La Serena conurbation,” highlights Daniel Muñoz, Programming Director of the Coquimbo Philharmonic Foundation, also recalling previous presentations. in Andacollo, to Monte Patria, Vicuña, and Guanaqueros.

Daniel emphasizes that it is the first time that one of the foundation’s cast goes to Illapel. “For us it is super important to be able to reach that community, considering how difficult it is for a professional orchestra to reach Illapel due to the issue of distances, so, in that sense, we also take an active role in contributing to cultural democratization, and That is one of the reasons why it is determined that the Orchestra goes to Illapel.”

As for upcoming events, “the next thing coming is a symphonic Violeta Parra and Víctor Jara, because we are with that idea of musical art,” he explains, adding the closing day that is already planned for the end of the year: “we want to close With a great show in December, the choir, recently formed within the foundation, will surely also be participating,” projects the Programming Director of the Coquimbo Philharmonic Foundation.

The Coquimbo Philharmonic Foundation is part of the Support Program for Collaborating Cultural Organizations of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, which seeks to strengthen and provide continuity to private and non-profit cultural institutions and organizations.

This program is also part of the Financing System for Organizations and Cultural Infrastructure of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage that integrates, articulates and coordinates in a transversal way the plans, programs and funds aimed at the promotion and support of organizations, cultural infrastructure, and artistic mediation. All this with a decentralized vocation, participatory mechanisms, and the promotion of the creation of networks and associations.
