Unguía: students report that there is a lack of teachers. “We continue in the same way.”

The students of the Santa María La Nueva Del Darién Educational Institution in Unguía have held protest demonstrations demanding the appointment of 16 teachers.

There are two biology and chemistry teachers missing, four for primary school, four for computer science, two for social sciences and political science, two for Spanish, two for English and mathematics.

Fabián Teherán, representative of the Santa María La Nueva Del Darién school, reported that the Secretary of Education of Chocó promised to send teachers to teach the classes, but time passed and now they are not receiving classes. And he added that the reason for the protest is because the situation does not change, since for years they have had to wait for the department’s Secretary of Education to “send them teachers” and if new ones arrive, in December they will be hired again. go and that’s how it is every year.

Tehran said that they have already spoken with the Secretary of Education, Yina Reales, when the departmental development plan was presented. On that occasion, the students told her about the problem and she “promised that she was going to send the teachers and it’s time and nothing.”

“We miss classes. What is happening is that we are making a call so that the Secretariat can see that we are waiting for the teachers that they have to send us; “We have not received a physics or mathematics class this year,” he noted.

The Secretary of Education of Chocó, Yina Reales, indicated that in Chocó there is a need for around 120 teachers, which makes the problems much more acute in remote regions. As she said, what they are doing now is “putting out fires and plugging holes” in the face of the crisis they face.
