The merchants request a dignified relocation to continue selling as they have done to date.

The Second Judge of the Neiva Circuit determined that the Mayor’s Office of El Hobo must temporarily relocate the stationary street vendors within a period of two months, and within three months, present a work plan for their final location.

The ruling, issued on October 10, 2017, establishes that the merchants who currently occupy the public space in the Simón Bolívar park and along the road must be transferred to the “Parador Turístico” permanently. This measure responds to the need to clear the area due to the construction of the 4G Neiva-Campoalegre-Pitalito-Mocoa-Santana highway, projected by the concessionaire Ruta Al Sur.

For many years, various families have depended on the sale of products such as oats, almojábanas, biscuits and cheeses in that area, making it a traditional stop for travelers heading to the south of Huila and the interior of the country. These vendors refuse to leave their stalls, arguing that their current location is crucial to their livelihood.

“We demand that you help us with a dignified relocation,” expressed Nancy Polanía, representative of the Association of Street and Stationary Vendors.

During a peaceful demonstration held on Friday morning in protest against the measure. Sellers request that the relocation guarantee them adequate conditions to maintain their sales levels, just as they have done until now.

In addition, they have requested the presence of the governor of Huila, Rodrigo Villalba Mosquera, to find a solution that satisfies the needs of all parties involved. The main concern for sellers is that the new designated site does not offer the same guarantees to attract customers and, therefore, could significantly affect their income.
