Youth, civil society organizations, educational institutions, local authorities and the private sector were invited to participate in the Interstate Forum “Co-incidence: alliances and good practices for decent work from and for young people” who headed the civil organization, Education and Citizenship, AC (Educiac).

The objective is to generate multifactorial dialogues to understand and raise awareness, with actions and good practices around the socio-labor inclusion of youth and their right to decent workin addition to presenting the progress and results of the project “Compás Joven: Socio-laboral inclusion with youth in San Luis Potosí and Oaxaca” developed by Educiac and Solidaridad Internacional Kanda, AC, SIKanda.

Among the findings of the analysis they did to the National Occupation and Employment Survey (ENOE), highlighted that in San Luis Potosí 275,476 young people between 15 and 29 years old are non-economically active population; because they live with a physical impediment to work, or they dedicate their time to study or household chores; this last activity assumed mainly by women. Only one woman for every four men accesses salaries equivalent to a range between 12,446 and 18,669 pesos.according to information from the third quarter of 2023.

“They do not have access to social security or a work contract in San Luis Potosí and if we talk about Oaxaca the situation is worse, we are talking about high levels of informalityand the impossibility of accessing adequate working conditions,” said Rogelio Córdova, director of Educiac.

Regarding the application of the first phase of a survey among users of services from two civil organizations (Otra Oportunidad, AC and Vista Hermosa, AC), it was highlighted that Women reported greater difficulties in maintaining paid employment due to domestic and care work. that are attributed to them as responsibilities, a situation that not only affects their ability to access work, but also reduces their socio-labor inclusion.

“There are many pending tasks, the problem is growing due to the conditions of violence, in the case of Oaxaca we are addressing environmental issuesand that people open themselves to other topics such as communities in movement, possible youth, we work from a multifactor approach to improve the conditions of dignified access, why we were interested in this work, it is because we noticed that access or the transition of Secondary education to other studies presented different obstacles,” added María Ávila, state coordinator of the project in Oaxaca.

Nydia Morales, state coordinator of the project in San Luis Potosí, highlighted the relevance of recognizing decent work as a necessary task to promote, since in the 4 years that the project lasts, they diagnosed the situation of access to work for youth in the states in question. He also presented the strategies and advocacy proposals for the socio-labor inclusion of youth at the regional level and in the states involved.

For her part, María Ávila, state coordinator of the project in Oaxaca, stated that the project integrated the subsidy to six organizations in the Huasteca and Middle regions in the case of San Luis Potosí, as well as in the Mixteca and central valleys in the state. from the southeast of Mexico. These projects aimed at raising awareness of 6 thousand young people and training 700 young people on human rights and labor rights issues.

Rogelio Córdova, director of Educiac, stressed the importance of building synergies that allow us to collectively add to the guarantee of work, and invited the attendees to feel in a space of trust, participants and protagonists of this forum.

There they carried out the presentation of the repository Young Compass, which houses diagnostic information on the situation of access to decent work for youth in the states analyzed, as well as the actions that were promoted. The main findings of the Interstate Observatory for decent jobs for youth and an analysis of public policies were presented, specifically to the budget programs implemented by the State government, for the period 2021-2027.

About the analysis of public politicshighlighted that the programs that were analyzed have deficiencies in information that prevent us from knowing the population they are aimed at, the activities they will involve and how the objectives of each program will be met.
